Blue Star DIRECT’s Environmental Sustainability Policy

Blue Star DIRECT has formulated an Environmental Sustainability Policy that is aligned to the requirements of AS/NZS ISO 14001 and the Environmental Protection Act.

Blue Star DIRECT’s Environmental Policy is as follows:

Environment Statement

Blue Star DIRECT recognises the importance of the environment in Australia and globally. The company supports balanced measures to protect the environment.
The company will ensure that in conducting its business that all practical measures are taken to protect the environment and will comply with all applicable laws, regulations and standards.
Blue Star DIRECT will continuously monitor its operations to ensure compliance with its environmental policy. Managers and employees must reduce potential environmental risks by complying with environmental requirements promptly and ensure all operations are scrutinised regularly to ensure that they comply with environmental laws.
Governments and community have set high standards of compliance in environmental laws. This is reflected in legal statutes that require personal liability for breaches. While Blue Star DIRECT will comply with its environmental obligations and assist managers and employees to be aware of and comply with environmental obligations, it is essential that all managers and employees recognise, understand and act upon these principles as a matter of personal obligation.

Blue Star DIRECT’s environmental commitment includes:

  • Procedures to ensure that the organisation complies with all government regulation in relation to the environment.
  • An undertaking to proactively develop measures to minimise the environmental impact of all aspects of our business.
  • A commitment to develop solutions to assist our clients to achieve improved environmental outcomes through the services we provide.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Blue Star DIRECT commits to endeavoring to seek ways to continue to deliver the highest level of service to our customers, but with reduced environmental harm or impacts.

Performance Objective

The primary goal of Blue Star DIRECT’s Environmental Management System is:

“Continual improvement of our current environmental management techniques”

In achieving this goal we place a strong emphasis on prevention rather than corrective action.

Environmental Sustainability and Financial Performance

Blue Star DIRECT is committed to the principles of “Triple Bottom Line” and recognises the link between environmental outcomes and financial performance.

Improving our own environmental practices, or assisting our clients to improve their practices, involves looking for resource efficient ways to achieve outcomes. Typically, this means identifying “waste” in a process and delivering our service in more resource efficient ways.

Elimination of waste is inevitably associated with more efficient processes and improved financial performance.

Blue Star DIRECT’s Environmental Initiatives

Blue Star DIRECT has not taken any form of formal waste nor environmental audit. However, Blue Star DIRECT joined Greenhouse Challenge as a member in 2004, and have participated in the voluntary monitoring program, using the Greenhouse Challenge template to calculate, and monitor the CO2 emission on the production output (CO2 per 1000 units).

Blue Star DIRECT was deemed to be a low CO2 contributor; and therefore were not required to provide further reporting on our emissions. However, Blue Star DIRECT are still committed to continue participating in programs where we can minimise our impact. For example, Blue Star DIRECT:

  • have installed light switches and air-conditioner switches in all meeting rooms to ensure that these facilities are not running each day;
  • participates in the recycle paper program with Shred-X;
  • recycles all print cartridges with HP;
  • holds regular reviews on our lighting systems to ensure that we have them operating in the hours required;
  • have implement compulsory use of Sharepoint to eliminate paper files; and
  • migrated our legacy server environment to a state of the art, energy efficient data centre environment.

Working with Blue Star DIRECT, I feel confident that the sensitive data we deal with is in safe hands. The team are proactive and consultative, readily available and regularly go ‘above and beyond’. They take an active interest in our Direct Marketing outcomes and work hard to ensure our continued growth while implementing cost-savings.
